Shorin Ryu Karate

shorin ryu karate SHORIN-RYU is one of the oldest styles of karate, tracing its lineage back to the 17th century. The set exercises, or kata, of this style contain long-range striking applications familiar to tournament-goers and close-range trapping, grappling and throwing applications known as tui-te or tori-te. Shorin-Ryu is popular worldwide.

1001-0 Tape 1  NAIHANCHI SHODAN, CHINTO, NAIHANCHI NIDAN, PASSAI DAI
This tape features the first two of three versions of the Naihanchi kata (also known as Tekki). The kata is known for its strong stance. Sensei Alexander analyzes the katas Chinto & Passai (Bassai) for hidden applications. Unlike some tui-te instructors who emphasize nerve and vital point strikes, Alexander stresses the more reliable approaches of grappling, breaking and throwing.

1002-0 Tape 2  NAIHANCHI SANDAN, PASSAI SHO
A third variation of Naihanchi and a second version of Passai in this hard-hitting tape, stressing close-range fighting and destructive joint locks.

1003-0 Tape 3  GOJUSHIHO
One of Shorin-ryu's more advanced forms, this kata stresses soft interceptions and hard follow-up strikes. It makes use of seldom-seen hand formations, simultaneous blocking and striking and a high degree of circular movement. Sensei Alexander shows how to use the motions to evade the attacker while setting up painful vital point strikes, kicks and takedowns.
